On Friday Sept. 14, the campus location of the Nanaimo Art Gallery will feature two new exhibitions by celebrated Canadian artists Ann Kipling and Sara Robichaud.
In Kipling’s The Solitudes of Place, forty-three of the award winning artist’s nationally recognized pencil and coloured pen drawings will be on display. The public is invited to marvel in Kipling’s intense attention to detail and her unique application of line-drawing technique to capture the movement and energy of seemingly solitary elements of nature in B.C. in her artwork.
Sept. 14 also marks the day Double Life, Robichaud’s series of large-scale acrylic paintings, will open at the gallery. The Nanaimo-based artist’s provocative use of shapes, colours, textures, and symbolic objects to represent the fusion of her internal thoughts and external actions have been shown in New York, Toronto, and Los Angeles, and promise to be a stunning representation of Canadian abstract art.
On the opening day, the public is invited to participate both in a tour of Kipling’s exhibition at 4:30 p.m., led by curator Darrin Martens, as well as the opening reception, at 5:30 p.m., where Kipling and Robichaud will be in attendance. On Thursday, Sept. 27 at 11:45 a.m., Robichaud will host a public Artists Talk session at the gallery. Admission is free.
