On October 6, the Worldbridger Film series is hosting a Director’s Night Double Feature: Pimachihowan: Living With the Land, and Letters to Attawapiskat, both created by ethnomusicologist Michael B. MacDonald.

WHY YOU SHOULD CARE
Pimachihowan is a Cree concept of living with the land, and Letters to Attawapiskat features an Edmonton community group response to the Attawapiskat youth suicide crisis. Bonus: the filmmaker, Michael MacDonald, is hosting this event.
WHAT
On October 7 a celebration of student success is being hosted by the Centre for Experiential Learning. The event will be a “showcase of student scholarship and learning” featuring posters, presentations, and portfolios as well as a photo contest.
There will be tasty snacks provided, courtesy of students in the VIU culinary program.

Event will be held from 1 – 4 pm.

Nanaimo Lakes Road will be repaved this fall, as well as given shoulders for cyclists and pedestrians.

Construction will begin on September 28, and is projected to be completed by the end of October.

Motorists are advised that there will be significant traffic disruptions, and are encouraged to choose an alternate route.
WHAT
City crews are currently preparing to reduce the water level in Colliery Dam Park, as steps are being taken to restore the beach area located near the south side of the lower lake.
Water levels are expected to be down for between one and four days while work is underway.

The lower lake will be closed for swimming during this period.
Please note: The newly exposed shoreline may be slippery; users of Colliery Dam Park are advised to approach the lower lake carefully while the water levels are down.

The Nanaimo Aquatic Centre is open to the public again after its annual Fall cleaning.
In addition, their popular Dive-In Movies event will begin again this Fall/Winter, starting with a special Halloween-themed movie on October 15.
