VIU Students’ Union is holding their annual Club Fair this Tuesday, September 17. You can find the event at the Upper Quad (between the library and upper cafeteria) from 11 am – 1 pm. Club Presidents will be available to answer any questions about what they do and how often they meet.

New clubs pop up every year and there are also many returning clubs. This is a great opportunity to find a club that connects you to a community that shares some of your interests. VIU currently has 52 clubs that fall under five categories: Activist Clubs, Course Unions, General Interest Clubs, Partisan Clubs, and Religious Clubs.

From the Ukulele Club, Snack Club, and Swim Club to earth science, MBA, and history, there is one for anyone and everyone!

Clubs are an easy and interactive way to meet new people and get involved in the VIU community. Whether it’s your first year or your sixth, these are spaces where you’ll find good conversation and enthusiastic people. Each President is passionate about the club they’re running and are always happy to have more members.

Many clubs watch movies, have snacks, and chat about current events (except the history club). Others go beyond the VIU campus and help out local charities, environmental causes, or go on trips on and off the island.

I’m in my third year at VIU and I’ll be a part of one returning club and one new club this year. At first I thought attending would feel like just another thing to fit into my schedule, but it became a fun social school event that finally required no homework.

If you’re looking for a challenge, go to a few club meetings and ask how you can get involved with their executive team. It looks great on a resume, and you’ll have a great support system to lean on while growing your leadership skills.

VIUSU is always setting up events for students to be involved in or just attend. Keep your eyes peeled for free food, discounts, and fun people who want to make your VIU experience the best it can be.

You can sign up at the Club Fair or check out the whole list on the VIUSU app or at VIUSU Clubs and Course Unions where you can sign up for event emails and start getting involved.

P.S. If you’re reading this after September 17, 2019, there is no cut-off for joining a club. You may be late, but you’re still great!
