On December 11th, the Navigator published an article titled “Who and what is buried next door to VIU?” about the Nanaimo Indian Hospital. Since then, we’ve received feedback from VIU faculty, students, and alumni about the article’s sensationalist approach and use of misinformation. In response, we’ve removed the online version of the article and have ceased circulation of issue #4 which contains the print version. In addition, we plan to evaluate our fact-checking procedures to ensure this type of mistake doesn’t occur again. We deeply apologize to everyone affected, especially to Indigenous people.
