The VIU Mariners Dance Team host their Annual Fundraiser.

On Tuesday, November 19, from 7 pm–11 pm, the VIU Mariners Dance Team will be hosting their annual Beer and Burger Fundraiser at The Queen’s Pub. The event is open to those 19 or older. Tickets for admission cost $18 at the door, but can be purchased for $15 from any team member of the dance team, or through the event page on Facebook.

One ticket for the event provides admission, one burger (beef or vegetarian), fries, and one drink, including beer, highballs, or house wine. Those in attendance may also participate in the team’s raffle as well as the ‘toonie two-six-toss,’ in which the player who throws their toonie the closest to a bottle wins the bottle.

Elissa Miranda, co-team-manager-captain-coach, said “It’s a fun [19 and up] event in support of our team to help us ensure we have a successful season. The event is fun and social, [and] allows for students of VIU and other supporters from the community to come out and meet some new people or simply hang out with some friends.”

Contributors to the event and the team’s raffle include the Vancouver Island Exhibition, the Vancouver Island Professional Wrestling Organization, The Queen’s, Level Two Nightclub, Purdy’s, Starbucks, and more. Proceeds go towards competition fees, costumes, space rentals, uniforms, and any team essentials for the season.

“Our partner is The Queen’s, and we host [the fundraiser] there every year because they treat us so well and are so fun to work with,” Miranda said. “This year they also donated two concert tickets to our raffle.”

The event offers support for the Mariners Dance Team, a fun adult environment, and a chance for supporters to get to know the team.

“This is my favourite event we put on each year because it lets us mingle and hang-out with a bunch of people who all support our team and teammates,” Miranda said.
