Mount Washington ski resort announced it will open on Friday, Nov. 30, one week earlier than previously scheduled. It is the fourth consecutive year the resort will begin its winter schedule early.

The exact lifts and terrain to be opened will be announced soon, and ski lifts will start running at 9 a.m. Friday morning.

A recent dump of 80cm of fresh snow made the early opening possible, and more snow is expected leading up to this weekend.

Mount Washington is offering an early bird special on 6ixPak lift tickets before Dec.1, saving adults $43 off the winter rate. 6ixPak tickets are transferable between friends, and a bonus seventh ticket is included for use in Apr., 2013.

The resort has plenty of events and activities for snow-lovers this season. Night alpine skiing begins Dec. 20, offering its popular evening runs four days a week. Nordic night skiing will be available Fridays and Saturdays on the mountain’s cross-country trails.

Those less inclined to ski or snowboard can try Ozone Snow Tubing daily until 9 p.m. Over 16km of snowshoe trails are available to trek, and the popular Snowshoe Tour & Fondue Dinner will return this season.

Families spending the holidays at the resort can attend a non-denominational Christmas Eve service, or watch the annual torchlight parade and fireworks show on Boxing Day. Resort staff ski down the face of the mountain with torches to create a neat display of light.

Live bands perform nightly leading up to the New Years Eve celebrations, which will feature a performance by The Steadies and a children’s show by Bobs & Lolo.

Those looking for discount days at the mountain can attend Kokanee Winter Fest on Jan. 7–11 when lift tickets will be half price. National Learn to Ski and Snowboard week takes place Jan. 14–18 and those attending will receive a discounted two-hour lesson, lift ticket, and equipment rental.
