International Band
If you like Mumford & Sons, check out indie-rock band Admiral Fallow. Though less folky than the English boys, and without the banjo, the same home-grown, slightly gritty, commonwealth country roots sound consistently runs through the Scottish band’s two albums, Boots in my Face (2010) and Tree Bursts in Snow, released in May of this year. The six-member Glasgow group have been active in the U.K since 2009, playing several festivals including Glastonbury and T in the Park, as well as touring across England and Scotland. Their North American tour will kick off Sept. with a stop-over in Vancouver on Oct. 10. Tracks to check out include “The Paper Trench,” and “The Beetle in the Box.”
Telvision
If you are a fan of NBC’s The Office or FOX’s New Girl, check out The Mindy Project, a comedy about the nutty situations a young, ungraceful New York City doctor faces in both her career and her personal life. The pilot was written by comedian Mindy Kaling, (executive producer, contributing writer, and Kelly Kapoor on The Office) who will also star in the series as the main physician, Mindy Lahiri. If the show is anything like Kaling’s previous work it promises to be awkward, witty, and absolutely hilarious, a must-see for anyone who is sick of hearing the constant repetition of the laugh-track throughout the recurring plot of Friends-style sitcoms. If you weren’t already sold, watch for guest appearances from Ed Helms (The Hangover) and Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live). The Mindy Project is set to air Tuesday, Sept. 25 on Fox.
