The 2017 Mariners men’s golf team will be headed by returning 2016 PACWEST league all-star Dallas Jones. Two of his teammates from last year will join him on the squad—Jacob Bland and Tony Trozzo. Trozzo is coming off a successful summer schedule that included playing both the BC Amateur Tournament and the Canadian Amateur Tournament. Bland was able to defend his title at the Sunshine Coast Men’s Amateur Tournament.
Taylor Henderson, who last played for the Mariners in 2015, is back for another season. Henderson most recently finished 4th overall at the Nanaimo Men’s Amateur Tournament with a three round score of three over par. Henderson also competed in the BC Amateur Tournament this summer as well.
Also new to the team is rookie Wyatt Brook. This past summer, Brook was recognized as the top junior golfer in Zone 2 (Kamloops/Kelowna). His top junior golfer ranking earned him a spot in the Mackenize Tour of Canada Event Professional Golf Event in Kelowna. A second round 74 proved that he has what it takes to be a successful varsity athlete.
The 2017 Mariners women’s golf team will is loaded with rookies. All three members of the team will be making their PACWEST debuts this season. Also, all three have recently moved to the Island from Ontario to make our roster, replacing our only female golfer from last season who also hails from Ontario.
Mariners Golf traveled to the Okanagan for the first PACWEST tournament on Sept. 16 and will host the second tournament at Morningstar Golf Club the following weekend.
